They have three main functions in aromatherapy massage: 1. to "carry" the essential oils through the skin into the blood stream and body. 2. to provide the necessary lubrication during massage to allow the hands to freely move over the skin without dragging. 3. to dilute the concentration of essential oils which should never be used undiluted.
